Embracing Islam: A Journey of Faith

Become a Muslim

A journey of faith.

A welcoming place to learn, ask sincere questions, and take your next step.
Islam is a religion that embraces all of humanity, regardless of race, ethnicity, or background. Its message is one of peace, submission to God, and living a life of purpose and meaning. The teachings of Islam provide guidance on all aspects of life, from personal conduct to social relations, offering a path to spiritual fulfillment and inner peace.

1. The declaration of faith

The first step to becoming a Muslim is to declare the Shahada, the Islamic declaration of faith. It is a simple yet profound statement that encapsulates the core beliefs of Islam:
“Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah, wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan rasulullah.”
This translates to:
“I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.”
By reciting the Shahada with sincerity and conviction, one enters the fold of Islam. It signifies a belief in the oneness of God and the acceptance of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) as the final messenger of God.

2. Living a life of righteousness

Becoming a Muslim is not just about changing one’s religious affiliation but about embracing a new way of life. It is a commitment to living in accordance with God’s will, striving for moral excellence, and contributing to the well-being of society. The Quran encourages Muslims to:
“Enjoin good and forbid evil.” (Quran 3:104)
This verse highlights the active role Muslims are expected to play in promoting righteousness and combating injustice. By living a life guided by Islamic principles, Muslims can contribute to creating a more just, compassionate, and harmonious world.

3. Joining the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community

If you are interested in formally joining the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, there is a process of initiation called Bai’at. This involves pledging allegiance to the Khalifa of the time, the spiritual leader of the community, and committing to upholding the ten conditions of Bai’at. Below is a brief summary of the ten conditions set out by the Promised Messiah, may peace be upon him. The numbering follows the original; this summary does not replace the full wording.
  1. Worship God alone, without associating any partner with Him, throughout life.
  2. Avoid lies, sexual immorality, lustful looks, excess, cruelty, dishonesty, mischief, and rebellion; resist wrongful desires.
  3. Observe five daily prayers; strive for Tahajjud and blessings upon the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Seek forgiveness daily and remember and praise God.
  4. Never harm God’s creatures, especially Muslims, through words, actions, or any other means.
  5. Stay faithful to God in ease and hardship, accept His decree, and persevere through suffering for His sake.
  6. Reject un-Islamic customs and wrongful desires; let the Holy Quran and the Holy Prophet’s sayings guide every part of life.
  7. Leave pride and vanity behind; live humbly, cheerfully, patiently, and gently.
  8. Place faith, its honor, and Islam’s cause above life, wealth, personal honor, and loved ones.
  9. Serve God’s creation solely for His sake, helping humanity with all your abilities.
  10. Keep a lifelong bond of brotherhood with the Promised Messiah, may peace be upon him, obeying in everything good for God’s sake, with devotion above worldly ties.
