Service to Humanity: A Core Principle of Islam
In Islam, serving others is not just a noble act but a fundamental aspect of faith, a way to express love for God and fulfill our responsibilities as human beings.
The Quran, the holy book of Islam, emphasizes the importance of serving others:
“Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good, and to relatives, orphans, the needy, the near neighbor, the neighbor farther away, the companion3 at your side, the traveler, and those whom your right hands possess. Indeed, Allah does not like those who are self-deluding and boastful.” (Quran 4:36)
This verse highlights the wide range of people we are encouraged to serve, extending beyond our immediate family to encompass the broader community and even strangers in need. The teachings of Islam promote empathy, compassion, and a sense of social responsibility, encouraging Muslims to actively contribute to the well-being of society.5
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) exemplified the spirit of service throughout his life. He was known for his kindness, generosity, and concern for the welfare of others.6 He taught his followers:
“The best of people are those who are most beneficial to others.”
This saying of the Prophet underscores the importance of using our abilities and resources to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us. Whether it’s through volunteering our time, donating to charity, or simply offering a helping hand to someone in need, every act of service counts.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community is committed to serving humanity, both locally and globally. We believe that actions speak louder than words, and we strive to demonstrate our faith through practical acts of kindness and compassion. Our initiatives include:
